This was a project that a group and I took on while enrolled in MIS 375: Business Systems Development. Viking Ship Kayaks is a kayak rental company operating around Austin, TX.
Methodology
The purpose of the class was to engage with an Austin business to solve a problem of their choice using Agile methodologies and a Project Delivery Methodology used by consulting firms globally. We performed a stakeholder analysis, drafted user stories, developed a risk matrix, built our solution, QA tested, trained stakeholders, wrote documentation, and more, all to ensure that the client got exactly what they needed.
Challenges
This was the first time I've worked on a project for an actual client, so it came with a few challenges. The biggest of which was finding a cost-effective way to provide all requested functionality. Our client had very specific wants and needs so we had to conduct thorough research on possible solutions.
Results
We ended up doing a complete website redesign and implemented an automated scheduling tool, ↗ Amelia. We were able to meet every one of our client's functional requirements while cutting costs by about 40%!
