Gaming was a huge part of my childhood and has remained a hobby of mine. I've played all kinds of games, but some of my favorite have been Pokémon Ruby for GBA, the Professor Layton series, and Call of Duty: Black Ops II.
Development
The class was designed to mimic a game development studio. My group developed our game over the course of 10 weeks using Agile methodologies and were able to get live feedback and conduct playtests with other groups. Below is a depiction of the "home base" which was one of the first environments we completed.
Challenges
There was no shortage of challenges that arose throughout the semester. With no prior experience, my team and I had to learn the core principles of game devlopment as quickly as possible. We had to tackle enemy AI, collision handling, object lifecycles, and much more.
Results
After 10 weeks, we had built a feature-rich game with a compelling story. The Last Wizard consists of 3 levels that challenge you to defeat all enemies. You can cast spells at our AI-driven enemies that chase you and even cast their own spells.
